Grade 8 EAL differentiation strategies. von Mind Map: Grade 8 EAL differentiation strategies.

1. Intermediate

1.1. Activities: This set of students will be assigned the same activities as the high level students. However, their learning will be aligned to the "I do it, we do it, you do it together, you do it alone" approach.

1.2. Assessments: This set of students will be required to individually a Venn diagram just like the HL students. They will also be directed to watch the attached video and write a 3 paragraph essay on states of matter. They will need to submit their work weekly for feedback before submission.

2. High level

2.1. Activities: The main objective of this learning unit is that students will master scientific related vocabulary in regards to state of matter. I plan to incorporate a lot of investigative activities for this set of students. They will individually and collaboratively research resources like BrainPop & Sciencelearn.org.nz, and individually make a presentation about the states of matter and properties of each state using Prezi. They will also be involved in peer-tutoring and will be required to write a blog post about their research.  They will keep word cards that contain the word family, collocation and their own definition of the newly learnt words.

2.2. Assessments: The summative test designed for this unit is project based. Student will be required to individually make a classroom poster that contains a Venn Diagram. The Venn diagram must depict the three states of matter and 14 properties for each state. For this set of students, their modification will be they define the  newly learnt words in their own words and use them in other contexts. They will also be directed to watch videos of experiments related to this unit and write a 5 paragraph summative essay of the experiment.

3. Standard level

3.1. Activities: This set of students will lay their hands on models as much as possible. Their learning will be mostly game based, as I'll be using flipquiz and Quizlet a lot with them. I choose the aforementioned platforms because of the flashcard feature they've got. This set of students will keep word cards and be required to translate the newly learnt words to their native language. The last ten minutes of every block throughout this unit will be spent on journal writing. Furthermore, students will be provided a weekly worksheet that translates the newly leant words to their native language. However, they will be required to research the word family and make sentences with the them.

3.2. Assessments: For summative assessment, this set of students will complete a true/false test on Quizlet and also make a Venn like the HL students. They will be required to turn in their work weekly for feedback, and make necessary amendments based on the feedback they receive.
